weird and crazy...

We went to McDonalds today for lunch with gift cards from great grandma peterson. After eating the boys went to go play on the play area and quickly made some friends. Their conversation went like this..

Logan: Hey, I want you to meet my mom and dad

Porter: Yeah, they're kind of weird

Logan: Yep, they're just a little bit crazy.

Then we were introduced, now we know where we stand in our kids eyes.

Christmas 2008

We hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas this year. We had a great Christmas, very laid back. This was our first time not being with family and we were a little nervous about doing it all. I'll tell you what, it definately made me more grateful to my mom and mother-in-law who cook all the yummy food and let us bring a salad and show up. Brandon had to work until 3 on Christmas eve so the boys "helped" me get dinner ready. After we ate we opened up jammies thanks to grandma Bishop. Logan was hilarious opening up his, you'd of thought he hit the jack pot with the "fire jammies". After he opened them he kept telling me how much he just loved his fire jammies, the next day he didn't want to take them off. Porter was excited about his too, just was out-voiced by his older brother. We watched JOY to the World and talked about Christmas. We put out revel bars for Santa, because daddy said they were his favorite. Logan had drawn a picture of santa and wrote his name and "heart Logan" on it. It's the cutest picture ever. So once the kids to sleep we brought out the gifts, set up the few things that needed to be set up and I put the picture Logan had drawn up in my room on my desk, behind a box and flipped over. The next morning after presents had been opened he went into my room for a few minutes, and then I saw him coming out with his head down, his lip jutted out saying, "oh man, oh man!" So sadly. I saw what was in his hand and he had found that Santa didn't take his picture after all. I asked him what was wrong and he said, "Santa didn't want my picture." (Heart breaking). I told him that Santa actually loved it and must have just left it. I told him that we would mail it to him, and that seemed to make it all better, whew!

On Christmas morning Porter woke up at 5 am we told him that santa wasn't going to come if he didn't hurry and go back to sleep. So he quickly listened and did what he was told, that was a first. We then all got up around 8. The kids were so excited and even more shocked that santa had eaten all of the cookies they left out. It was so much fun watching them open presents, they were so grateful for everything they got, and were so excited. The rest of the day they played with all of their new toys. Porter was sneaking treats from everywhere he could and he always made sure to get one for Logan too. We went and watched the Tale of Despereaux, which was surprisingly good. It was a great Christmas and even though we missed being home with our families we had a lot of fun on our own. Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year.

Brandon's Sacrifice...

Brandon missed the BYU game last night so that he could go to, wait for it, WICKED with me. It was a belated birthday present for me and it was so amazing. I'll admit I didn't really know the entire story line for it, but I loved every minute of it, well besides being uncomfortable but that's inevitable at this point, right?! The singers did an amzing job and a drunk girl sitting next to us told us that she had seen it on broadway and that here in Detroit, it was just as good. So there you have it from the mouth of a drunk girl, why travel to NYC when you can attend the same thing in Detroit.
Anyways, I know I look awful in this picture but I had to have one. It was freezing cold outside and Brandon didn't want to take another picture. He'd had enough with the one we took before we left. It was such a fun night and a great date night with Brandon before the baby comes.

Seriously So Blessed :)

Last night was my baby shower and I seriously feel so blessed. A friend of mine in my ward, Jenny is due a week after me so it was a double shower for the both of us and it was so much fun to have someone to to share the "spotlight" with, since that's not my favorite position. I always worry about what if no one shows up? But almost everyone came that was invited and it was so nice to be around these amazing women.
We had the shower at an Italian restaurant, ate dinner, chatted, played a game and opened presents. It was so much fun. One of the many reasons I'm so glad to be a member of the church is no matter where I go there are awesome women who are so welcoming and I almost instantly have friends. I would hate to move somewhere and have to rely on just meeting people at random, I would not have many friends. I had a great time.

Here's the loot of goodies that I recieved. Everything was so much fun to open and see. I'm excited to get some pink in our laundry and not have all be blues, greens, and browns.
Baby news, there is none. I'm not measuring big on the ultra sound so the due date remains the same. My doctor is convinced that she can get me into labor at 39 weeks, I'm not as confident. The earliest she can induce is like 40.5 weeks. So sometime beginning - mid January we'll have a baby.
***I just wanted to post this little story about Logan as well. Brandon came home from work last night very frustrated with work. Logan was asking why he had such a bad day and Brandon said that someone yelled at him. In Logan's sweet advice he said, "Dad, if you just treat people the way that you wanted to be treated they'll be nicer to you." I love it! I love when we get words of wisdom from our small children who are sometimes so wise.

Snow Day

Logan and Porter have been waiting FOREVER to build a snowman. Every time it snows I tell them to wait a little while for some more snow. As it turned out it would quit snowing and quickly melt. So last night it snowed all night long and we woke up to a beautiful snow day. Brandon came home after lunch and took the boys outside to build their first SNOWMAN of the year. They had so much fun out there and were quite proud of all of their (or daddy's) hard work.

Ward Christmas Party

Last night was our ward's christmas party. Since I'm in Young Women's I've been hearing about this party for about the last 3 months. I knew it would be big and extravagant mainly because I've heard that as far as ward parties goes this is what they focus all of their time and energy on. We were suppose to dress up as people in Bethlehem would have dressed. So yesterday I hauled my boys over to Walmart to look at the $1.00 fabric and let them pick what they wanted to wear. Logan picked his first and I knew Porter would want the same thing as him. Then Logan didn't want to be the same and wanted to change his so he and Porter didn't have to match. I told them they didn't have a choice in being different and bought what we had already picked out. I basically just cut a hole through the top piece of the fabric, tied some twine around their waist and viola, shepherd boys. They loved them and were so excited to dress up.
Our Shepherd Family

So we all were dressed up, (yes even Brandon participated, gasp! It was a shocker he did it willingly). We arrived, sang some Christmas hymns and then walked through the over flow which was turned into the path to Bethlehem. We were given bags of coins to buy our food and trinkets, and then entered the city with some overzealous Roman Soldiers, and other towns people. We have an artist in our ward who was drawing portaits of people. Logan found him instantly and waited patiently in line for about 20 minutes and then sat still for about another 15 minutes. He was very intrigued with how this guy was drawing and was very proud of his finished project. Other things they had that we could buy were ornaments, hand made soaps, our name in Hebrew, a Bishop Family Journal to keep our family record in, potted drinking cups, and tons and tons of food. As a spectator it was a lot of fun. But man I would not have wanted to put that together or to clean it up.
Here's the boys with Logan's Portrait and Brandon's Portrait. There was no hope for Porter in sitting still that long. When Mary and Joseph came walking through the town he decided to throw a conniption and had to be removed from the area. He then took a drink of water from the drinking fountain and dribbled all down the front of him and started freaking out that he ruined his Halloween costume. We left shortly after that.

The other day Logan and I were walking in the store and he turned to me and said, "Mom Christmas isn't all about the decorations!" I was a little taken aback by this and a little proud, so I wanted to see where he was going to go with this and asked him, "that's right, what is Christmas all about?" He got a big old grin and said, "PRESENTS!" Oh how my heart broke, I felt like such a failure. I explained to him it was about the birth of Jesus and the hope that he brought into the world. So last night after the program which he intently listened to I asked him what Christmas was all about and he said, "Not just the activities, but presents too." Sigh! What is a mother suppose to do. Some day he'll learn right?

Just a bunch of randomness

Here's kind of a picture of my belly, and Porter giving baby sister a kiss. Sorry for those of you who wanted to see what I've been talking about lately, but it's the picture I had on my camera already.

WHY DAD IS "SO TOTALLY AWESOME"

My conversation with Logan the other day went like this, "Mom, did you know that dad is so totally awesome?"
Me: "really!"
Logan: "Yeah, he can build totally awesome Lego's. But you can't mom, you're not as good as dad. He builds me space ships, Christmas trees and robots. I love it!"

Now I know where I stand with my son. I need to learn some cool lego building skills, cause I don't have any. Just ask my kids.

NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED, HAS IT!

We had the top picture up on our fridge and I was looking at it the other day and realized nothing has really changed in Porter's eating methods. He's just a mess to say the least, but looking at that little guy make's me really miss that stage of life. I'm glad that I have another baby to go through it with again.
Yes I know this blog is totally random but I just had a couple of short things to post and so there you have it. Merry Christmas everyone.

36 Weeks

We're in the final stretch here with this little babe. I'm getting really excited to see her and hold her, and to be able to bend over without holding my breath and to sleep on my side without my ribs being kicked, yes she has found the "sweet spot" that both of my boys loved to press up against and it's a little tender. But really isn't it amazing that this little girl is growing inside of me, I still find it shocking at times.
I had my doctor's appointment and she decided to go ahead and do the ultra sound next week. I measured right on time this week and I actually paid attention to my weight gain and I've only gained 28 lbs. I say only because with my boys I gained over 50lbs each. So maybe this little girl will be little, kind of freaky... So once again with all things baby we don't know a whole lot.
We might have a name, at least we're getting closer. But for now it's our secret:)

Say what?

As a baby update, yes I am large and in charge and look like I've swallowed a basketball. I know this, I know what I look like and yet I still am shocked at the boldness of people I know and don't know. If I go out in public at all I get the stink eye from people who look at my two rowdy boys, then to the belly and say "you look like your ready to pop!" Or "wow you have your hands full." Yes I know, would you like one of them. This happens at least once a day if not more. I've also recieved statements like "I've never seen anyone get as big as you." Then today I had it, as I was walking I was told to quit waddling. Yes it was said in fun, I think. But my heck do we really need to point out my belly and how I move around all the time? I have just had it and have decided to go into isolation and avoid everyone and their comments.
As a real baby update I go back to the doctor on tuesday and if I'm measuring big again, last time I was measuring a week bigger. My doctor might do an ultra sound to see if the baby is actually measuring bigger so she can move up my due date. She really wants to induce me a week early I think she's afraid of monster size babies. I'm not sure how I feel about going a week early, I'm nervous of having 3 kids it's uncomfortable but it's easier keeping her inside me than having her out. So we'll keep you posted.
