A Different View

We borrowed this Johnny Jump up from a friend and Henry is in HEAVEN! He loves bouncing around and seeing the world from a different view.

While we were driving home from Detroit a few weeks ago Brandon and I were talking about all the little things that put us where we are now, in Ohio.  If you would have asked us where we would be living or what we would be doing 9-10 years ago, our answer would not have Ohio or podiatry in it.  While Brandon was at BYU he took a class that talked about the different kind of medical fields you could do.  Someone from DMU came out and talked to the class and Brandon was surprisingly interested in what she had to say.  So he met with her after class and asked her a million questions, literally they talked for about 2 hours. After that he was sold.  I was just happy to go along as long as he was happy.  So we found ourselves in Iowa attending DMU.  There we made another crucial decision about where to do his core rotation.  All along we had said "we'll go to Utah, we want to be by family that's what we'll do." The day of the "match" there were 3 slots for Utah's core rotations and 4 people who really wanted to go there. A few days before this Brandon had been talking with a friend who had told him about Detroit's program and Brandon was interested.  So the morning of the match he went up to his professor who was organizing all this and said, "take my name out of the Utah group I want to go to Detroit."  He came home later that day and told me that he was going to Detroit for 4 months now instead of Utah.  After those 4 months he loved the program.  He wanted the program and we both felt like we would be going there.  After interviews though he was told that he was Detroits 7th pick.  7TH! There was no way he was getting in there.  So we started looking at where else we could go and it looked like if Detroit didn't work out he might have to scramble. Some how 3 people a head of him matched with their number one choices and Brandon was in.  Our first year in Detroit was hard.  Brandon was pushed harder than he could have imagined and was literally raked across the coals. But he pushed through and came out a better person. As he was finishing his second year of residency on Ortho Trauma he got a call from Ohio they wanted to interview him and we were excited.  Then we didn't hear from them again for about 3 months.  At the same time he had just gotten an interview in Oregon.  We both went out there and tried to convince ourselves that we loved the place.  We liked it, but it didn't feel right.  He was pretty much told that the job was his, they had to interview this one other person just to be fair.  While we were waiting to hear from them Brandon went to Ohio to interview for the job he now has.  After he got home we found out that he didn't get the job, the other guy did because he had "time managment training" which we still don't know what that is. Ohio called and said we got the job here and after a little bit of negotiating he signed the papers.  A few weeks after that Oregon called again and said that the other doctor was being let go and they wanted to offer the job to Brandon. Brandon immediately said no and gave some names of people we knew who were looking.  So after all this we found ourselves in Ohio.  I don't really know why we are here, but we both feel very strongly that we were suppose to be here.  If he had done his core in Utah we would not be here, if he hadn't done his training in Detroit I don't think we would be here. So it's just amazing how these few little decisions we made along the road have put us somewhere we thought we'd never be.

Thank you for sharing that information about you. I've known bits and pieces but never the whole story. I know that even though the whole process was hard you were blessed a long the way.

so very true that God will help direct our paths if we just let him. We feel the same about our situation and even though we have been pressured to move close to family and have looked for jobs there many times, we still stay in Iowa because it always works out for us. It is meant to be. Glad you found your meant to be place (for now right!?)
