Okay I'm on a quest to be more "frugal" these days. I need help with new, "frugal", and yummy ideas for dinner. What do you cook for your family that you actually eat, tastes good, and doesn't cost a lot to make. I know you have recipes so give them up! :)

A couple of our new-found favorites:
POTATO SOUP
3 can cream of potato soup
2 cans evaporated milk (I use the non-fat kind)
Heat the soup and milk until hot. Top with shredded cheddar and pepper jack cheese and bacon (or bacon bits!) So, so, so yummy! Excellent bread bowl soup!
MALIBU CHICKEN SANDWICHES
Buy frozen chicken patties. Cook according to package directions. With 2-3 minutes of cooking time left, top with ham slices and cheese (We use pepper jack, but you could also use Swiss) and place back in oven to melt cheese. Serve on buns with tomato and lettuce.
I am in the same boat. We spend too much eating out and after a while the food is just gross. Lately I had a few good ones that my kids liked.
Cheesy Rice and Beans. (my kids like beans
1 can black beans
2 cups of rice (mexican style or just regular white)
1 can green chilis (mild)
1/2 packet taco seasoning
chopped onion
small carton of sour cream
cheddar cheese (not sure how much, a couple of handfulls)
Basically, cook the rice. Mix together the beans, chilis and onions and taco seasoning. Mix in the sour cream and cheese. Mix in with the rice. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes.
Today we had ravioli's made with frozen ones that you boil. They run pretty cheap.
We will have to swap recipes soon. We also do the majority of food shopping at Aldi, which helps the food budget a bit. Then I fill in the rest with Kroger or Meijer.
I think Brocolli Pasta is one of our most family-friendly meals. I hope these directions make sense...
Boil noodles (I usually use some of the crazier shapes because the boys like them better) in just enough water to cover them in a frying pan (can also be done in a saucepan - I'm sure). You can leave them plain or sometimes I add basil, oregano, and thyme. Once they're mostly cooked, add in a can of chopped tomatoes. Stir for a little while until it boils again. Then add in any amount of frozen brocolli. Mix in with the pasta and continue to let cook until the brocolli is at the desired doneness. Then remove from heat and top with cheese. Voila! I hope that helps (and I can't figure out if brocolli has two c's or two l's).
We are having BREAKFAST BURRITOS tonight for the lack of a better meal..... you've got your breakfast.... you've got your burrito!!
Our Family favorites are Homemade Macaroni and Cheese and Pizza(I buy the pop can crust now, but I used to make it and it is easy if you have an electric mixer).
Mac n Cheese
2 c elbow macaroni
1/4 c butter
1/4 c flour
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
2 c milk
2 c cheese
Cook pasta as directed on bag. Melt butter in saucepan. When melted add salt, pepper, and flour. Stir until mixed and then slowly add milk. Stir occasionally until mixture thickens. Add 1 1/2 c of cheese. When melted, remove from heat. put pasta in casserole dish and add cheese sauce. Stir together and sprinkle remaining cheese on top. Put in the oven around 375 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Remove and enjoy. Danny won't eat the Kraft Macaroni since I've started making this for him. Mac n Cheese is one of his all time favorites.
Ask me on my blog if you want the Pizza dough recipe. I don't have that one memorized and I'm too lazy to go downstairs and get it.
Crock Pot meals are my favorite. They are so easy. I made this meal tonight.
2 chicken breasts
1/4 c honey
1/4 c lemon juice
few hot pepper flakes
salt and pepper
garlic salt
Put in crock pot and cook for 4 hrs on high.
I put this mix on pasta with steamed veggies (frozen bag kind). I opened crm mushroom soup with 1 c. water, mix, and microwave for a sauce. Super yummy! Justin is picky and he loved it. Next time I will make more for left overs. Took about 10 min to make (besides chicken)
Here is another. I got this from my friend Dani.
Slice roast beef from the deli.
1 bell pepper
1 onion.
Cut of roast beef into slices. Cut pepper and onion. Cook until veggies are desired doneness, then add roast beef. Heat through. Put on hoagies with mozz. cheese slices. Yummy!
